AFES / International Services

When a person enters military duty, they dedicate themselves to the mission of the United States, leaving families and loved ones behind to serve their country. When family back home experience crises in their lives and need to get a message to the service member, the Red Cross steps in and serves as the valuable connecting link. Whether it is news of an illness or death in the family, or the joyous news of a birth, Armed Forces Emergency Services excels at getting the message delivered to the service member using the latest telecommunications technology. In fiscal year 01/02, our volunteers handled 1,093 cases and provided 3,219 services to service members and their families.

Working with sister Red Cross organizations throughout the world, we were able to provide services for families from foreign countries who are victims of civil unrest or war. In fiscal year 01/02, the Florida's Coast to Coast Chapter managed 5 cases and provided 15 services to international clients. Linking families with one another, providing relief in foreign countries, helping to ensure anytime, all the time, every time...We'll Be There.

Health & Safety Services

Hopefully you'll never have to use it, but the harsh reality is that knowing CPR can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. In the Florida's Coast to Coast Chapter of your American Red Cross, people know the importance of being prepared. The American Red Cross successfully trains thousands of  individuals each year in CPR, First Aid, Water Safety, and HIV/AIDS education. Red Cross volunteers lead the way in communities by working with schools, businesses, and churches, providing valuable information that can suddenly be used in an instant.

Students, homemakers, corporate executives; everyone can benefit from learning what to do when "Help Can't Wait." Volunteers and community friends partnering and working to help ensure that any time, all the time, every time...We’ll Be There.

Disaster Services

At any moment a disaster can strike. A home can instantly burn to the ground, a tornado can rip through a neighborhood leveling everything in its path, or a flood can engulf crops, possessions and dreams before the waters recede. Any moment, any time, any place -- in an instant. When the worst happens, victims can feel lonely and confused and uncertain where to turn for help. The Red Cross prides itself on its rapid response, providing immediate emergency assistance to families affected by these calamities. Lending not only a sympathetic ear, but also a helping hand, the Red Cross steps in and provides food, shelter and clothing for these victims.

In an on-going effort to have the very best volunteers to respond to the client's needs, your Chapter trained over 727 volunteers in courses such as mass care, logistics and family services. The Chapter also reached 43,599 people received Community Disaster Education information or demonstrations. Working with neighborhood associations, churches and businesses to be better prepared for when the wind blows.

Over six hundred children in K to 5th grade participated in Disaster Education programs.  We can’t prevent disasters from happening, but we can ensure that any time, all the time, every time...We’ll Be There.

Volunteer Services

They come from all walks of life. Some having been victims of natural disasters, others wanting a way to reach out to their community, and some just for the love of the Red Cross mission. "We work hard, but people are so appreciative of us being there...that is the pay you get from being a volunteer with the Red Cross," stated Phyllis Bashaw, Volunteer, Hernando County.

Whether it is responding to a single-family fire in the middle of the night, manning a shelter during an approaching hurricane, or teaching a Health and Safety class once a month, the volunteers of the Red Cross are the "lifeblood" of the organization. Leading the way and providing innovative ideas for the new millennium, the Florida’s Coast to Coast Chapter volunteers, lend a hand, wipe a tear, provide a meal --

with these dedicated people, the Red Cross promises that at  any time, all the time, every time...

We’ll Be There.
