Do you have any disaster preparedness information for seniors?
Yes, we have preparedness tips and contact information available here.
I am homeless and a senior. Can the Red Cross help me?
Seniors who have become homeless may contact our Emergency Services department at (407) 894-4141 for assistance.
I am interested in the Lifeline personal emergency response system. Can you give me more information?
Lifeline offers a "Personal Emergency Response Service" (PERS) to anyone who lives alone and may benefit from easy access to an emergency phone call at all times. PERS consists of a personal help button, which is worn directly on the person who lives alone and is connected to a small in-home communicator. The communicator automatically dials the Lifeline Response Center if the button is pushed. Users have their choice of how to wear their personal help button — on a pendant around their neck, or on a wristband. Although most of the Lifeline users are senior citizens who live alone, the services are also valuable for disabled residents or people with other health problems. Call 1-800-959-6989 and mention the American Red Cross Mid-Florida Region.
Dial-A-Friend
The American Red Cross of Central Florida has Dial-A-Friend, which is a free, daily telephone reassurance program ( online DAF registration form). From July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010, Red Cross Dail-A-Friend volunteers made 26,780 calls to homebound seniors.
For more information on the Dial-A-Friend Program call 407-894-4141.
