(Daytona Beach) Volunteers with the Florida’s Coast to Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to three weekend fires. Disaster Action Team volunteers assisted two families whose Volusia County homes were destroyed. The first fire occurred Friday evening in Port Orange and the second fire displaced a Daytona Beach family. The third fire destroyed a Brooksville home in Hernando County on Sunday morning and Red Cross volunteers assisted this family as well.

In each case, the American Red Cross provided the families with temporary lodging and financial assistance to obtain food and clothing. In all, six individuals were assisted. All American Red Cross disaster assistance is provided free of charge, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the community.

As our unseasonably cool weather continues, the Red Cross urges everyone to take fire safety precautions. For fire prevention tips, please visit www.midfloridaredcross.org.
